While those of us with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and/or Fibromyalgia — or anyone else for that matter! — probably will never match the cartoon guy in strength and endurance, we do seem to be coming close to matching Popeye in spinach consumption. At least when it comes to the fresh stuff. According to information on the USDA Economic Research Service in the 1970s we each only ate about 5 ounces of spinach annually; in 2004-2006 we each averaged eating about 2.2 pounds of the fresh spinach a year.
