Prozac - A
Problem Drug or a Scapegoat?
Despite clinical studies such as one done at the
Nijmegen University Hospital in the Netherlands
and others that have shown that, unlike the results
for those with major depressive disorders,
medicating with
Prozac results in "no significant differences
... for any dimension of CFS," the antidepressent
medication is still sometimes prescribed for Chronic
Fatigue Syndrome patients.
A
recent article in The New York Times
discussed the speculation that Prozac may have
played a role in the school shootings at Red Lake
High School in Minnesota. According to the article,
" Jeff Weise, whose rampage killed 10 people, took
antidepressants" and "began taking the
antidepressant Prozac after a suicide attempt."
